Ivan Bunin (22 October 1870 - 8 November 1953) was a Russian writer who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1939. He was awarded the prize "for the strict artistry with which he has carried on the classical Russian traditions in prose writing." He also received the Pushkin Prize in 1903 and 1909. He wrote famous short novels including The Village and Dry Valley.
